About Me

Ask me about science is your one stop for everything interesting in science, and for you to ask questions and get answers.

This blog started on April, 22nd (Earth Day), 2018 and will be updated when I have time, when people ask interesting questions or when something hits me as interesting.

My name is Andrew Lombardo and I’ve been working in the science field for 14+ years.

If you’re looking for my qualifications/education/experience/background:

I have a bachelors degree in Paper Science and Engineering (which is not learning origami despite popular belief) from State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry , and I have a Masters degree in Applied Physics with a concentration in Nanotechnology and Material Science from Southern Connecticut State University, and I have a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Policy and Strategic Management from University of New Haven.

I have spent most of my career working in nanotechnology and filtration, but have worked in some way in all kinds of different science.

I have six US granted patents:

  1. Uses of Fibrillated Nanofibers and the Removal of Soluble, Colloidal and Insoluble Particles from a Fluid: US 8002990
  2. Method of Making a Filter Media with an Enriched Binder: US 8622224
  3. Carafe Filter Housing: USD717912
  4. Method of Making a Filter Media with an Enriched Binder (continuation): US 9289702
  5. Carafe filter with air lock prevention feature: US 9849407
  6. Formation and immobilization of small particles by using polyelectrolyte multilayers: US 9718013

I placed links to the patents if you’re really bored and want to read a patent (if you can’t sleep I guarantee it will put out out in less than 15 min.. and if you think it’s boring to read, imagine trying to write it).

I have several more published patents that are still pending:

  1. Reverse Flow Gravity Filter Cartridge: WO 2016033596 A1
  2. Filter media for gravity filtration applications US 20150014240 A1
  3. Electrostatic removal of colloidal, soluble, and insoluble materials from a fluid CA 2920294 A1
  4. Filtering Container US20140186496
  5. Distributing media files 2007005538

And probably about 5 or 6 more that are pending and not published yet (the USPTO takes some time to publish patents).

I have spent most of my life evaluating technologies and science, and I am passionate about science awareness.

I firmly believe that science will play a huge role in solving all the problems that we as humans are facing today, and I’m passionate about getting others interested, excited, and involved in science.

I also have a lot of random projects that I get myself into, from photography to painting, to woodworking, to writing music, to glassblowing and if you’d like to check out some of my work my personal portfolio is available at www.awltiedup.com

If you have any questions about science, or questions for me feel free to let me know.

Thanks for visiting.
